Join us the morning of April 28th for a youth climbing competition! This event will be a “redpoint” format. This means that you will have three and a half hours to try the routes as many times as you want. The route setting crew at Stone Age is preparing a smorgasbord of over 20 routes for your climbing pleasure. At 1pm climbing will end and an after party hosted by Team Mojo will begin. It is a “potluck” type event so if you would like to bring some food to share, please do. If you are on Team Mojo, please refer to the food sign up list that was sent out in an email and sign up to bring something.

This will be a great community event for the youth rock climbers in New Mexico!

Competition volunteers: We need help belaying/judging for this event. Sign up to help at the front desk and receive a 20% off coupon for items in our retail shop.

Tryout Results

Tryouts was massive this season, thank you all for coming out and climbing. For those of you who have earned a spot, congratulations! For those of you who didn’t get what you had hoped for, work hard and tryout again next season. We issued team invites to as many kids as we could but the reality of the situation is that we had 79 people trying out for 62 spots. We certainly had to make some tough decisions. Through this process our team will become the best it can be.
Below you will find two equally important documents. One is the roster of who has been invited to which team. Next to each person’s name on the roster it says “invite open” meaning you have been invited. Remember, this is an invitation and you may accept or decline it. Before making your decision, look at the second document linked below. This is the “Welcome Packet” that has been updated this year to include more information about what the expectations and participation requirements of our team are. We have upped the competition requirements of our entire team this season. Please review this and make sure you understand what you are signing up for.
By accepting an invitation, you are agreeing to participate on the team for the season (now through July) and meet the outlined requirements.
To Accept or Decline, please send us an email with your Name, your Team, and your decision.
You have until Sunday, March 4th to respond. After this date we will pass the invitation along to the next deserving candidate.
Here is the SCS 2012 roster: Team Roster
Here is the “Welcome Packet”: Welcome to Team Mojo-9
New Members to each team can start practice the week of March 5th. We will also be organizing a parent meeting that week to help cover topics in detail and meet the new families on our team.
If you have any questions please email me and I will try to get back to you as soon as possible: Curran@StoneAgeGym.com

Team Tryouts – February 23rd & 24th

Our ABS season is coming to a close and team members Richard and Thomas are representing Team Mojo at the ABS Youth Nationals event in Colorado Springs. Congratulations to all our athletes who have pushed themselves this season and achieved new personal bests.

SCS Season (ropes) is just around the corner, and with USAC pushing back the date for bouldering nationals it will be a short one. We want to start preparations for the creation and training of our SCS team. Our open tryouts are scheduled and sign up is available. Visit our Team Tryouts page to find out more information and to sign up.

USAC Regionals @ Stone Age

It is coming up fast: USAC Regionals and is just around the corner, both figuratively and literally. We are hosting the event at Stone Age this year and although it may not be just around the corner from your house, it is a lot closer than Arizona or Utah. Also the event is happening December 9th, 2011. Just barely over a month away and we will be tearing the gym down and putting it back together with challenging problems for the big and small. As we’ve been reminding all our team members, the best way to prepare at this point is to CLIMB A LOT! You all have memberships, use them. Come climb with friends and team mates after school and on the weekends. Theoretically you have about three more weeks to prepare and then it is time for some recovery before the championship. Regardless of performance, you should all know that the coaches are pretty pleased with the season and it is all due to your efforts, congratulations.
